Main functions of battery management system BMS
What is BMS
The English name of BMS Battery Management System, the Chinese name of Power Battery Management System, is a system that monitors and manages the battery. Through the collection and calculation of parameters such as voltage, current, temperature, and SOC, it controls the charging and discharging process of the battery to realize the protection of the battery. , The management system that improves the overall performance of the battery is an important link between the on-board power battery and the electric vehicle.
Main functions of BMS
1. Parameter detection
Real-time collection of battery charge and discharge status. The collected data includes the total battery voltage, the total current of the battery, the temperature of each battery measurement point, and the battery voltage of the single module.
2. Estimation of remaining power (SOC)
The remaining battery energy is equivalent to the amount of fuel in a traditional car. In order to let the driver know the SOC in time, the system should collect the charging and discharging current, voltage and other parameters in real time, and estimate the SOC through the corresponding algorithm.
3. Charge and discharge control
Control the charging and discharging of the battery according to the state of charge of the battery. If a certain parameter exceeds the standard, such as the voltage of the single battery is too high or too low, in order to ensure the normal use and performance of the battery pack, the system will cut off the relay and stop the energy supply of the battery.
4. Thermal management
Collect the temperature of each battery at the measurement point in real time, and prevent the battery temperature from becoming too high through the control of the cooling fan.
5. Balance control
Due to the individual differences of each battery and the different usage conditions, the inconsistency of the battery during use will become more and more serious. The system should be able to judge and automatically perform equalization processing.
6. Fault diagnosis
Through the collection of battery parameters, the system has functions such as predicting battery performance, fault diagnosis and early warning.
7. Information monitoring
The main information of the battery is displayed in real time on the vehicle display terminal.
8. Parameter calibration
As different vehicle types use different battery types, quantities, battery pack sizes and quantities, the system should have the function of calibrating information such as vehicle type, vehicle number, battery type, and battery mode. The BMS is realized by communicating with the calibration software of the host computer through the RS232 interface.
9. CAN bus interface
According to the vehicle CAN communication protocol, information is shared with other systems of the vehicle.
