At present, there are many problems in energy storage BMS:

According to reports, China's energy storage BMS started late and the standards are not yet complete. Although there are framework standards, there is no uniform standard for control strategies. So far, different companies have different requirements for high-voltage boxes, and energy storage wiring harnesses are not uniform, which leads to high installation and commissioning costs, many failures, and difficult operation and maintenance of energy storage systems.

According to reports, the relevant state departments are formulating industry-related standards, which are expected to further standardize the BMS industry, ensure the safety and service life of batteries, and reduce the cost of energy storage systems through standardization and scale.

This is mainly reflected in the relatively low technological maturity and lack of related standards. For example, there is no unified standard for PCS protocol and EMS communication protocol, control strategy, etc. Therefore, there are many on-site debugging problems, which increase a lot of on-site construction costs. For example, the size of the battery box, the car has a VDA standard. So far, all different manufacturers of energy storage have different sizes and specifications. This greatly reduces the standardization and scale of energy storage, and it also brings a reduction in costs. Obstacles, so maturity is a big issue.

The cost is still very high, and it needs to be reduced through standardization and scale. How to further reduce the cost of BMS to reduce the cost of the entire energy storage system. Although the cost of BMS in the energy storage system is very small, it is currently 6%, and the initiative may reach about 10%. We think this cost can be further reduced.

The reliability and cost of active balancing need to be further improved.

Security algorithm The energy storage BMS algorithm has just started, and there is still room for improvement in the estimation progress, the convergence and robustness of the algorithm. Especially the battery early warning algorithm is very important in the energy storage system, but it is almost a blank in the industry in China.

On the whole, the overall level of the BMS industry in the energy storage field is not high. There are many BMS manufacturers, product quality varies, and some companies have insufficient understanding of energy storage systems. This leads to the BMS always in the top ranking in the component failure ranking of the entire energy storage system.

The overall failure rate is relatively high, which is a problem with BMS at present.

Mastering chip technology is the core

Traceable BMS technology, as early as the 1990s, there were protective boards for consumer products and power tool batteries. Since 2000, with the gradual maturity of lithium batteries and the rise of electric vehicles, battery management system technology has been formed.

Domestic BMS technology relies heavily on chip manufacturers, and the core technology has always been in the hands of foreign chip manufacturers. Without chips and algorithms, technological development is naturally controlled by others.

In the development of the domestic BMS industry, special attention should be paid to the localization of key components; active balancing has become a standard technology; product integration is becoming higher and higher, battery status algorithms and cloud big data are combined, and artificial intelligence algorithms have become the mainstream. The BMS terminator is a battery sensor.

Although the threshold for entering the BMS industry is low, the living space for low-end BMS supply is getting smaller and smaller. As the new energy and battery industries are about to "shuffle", the BMS industry will accelerate the survival of the fittest. At present, the industry supply-demand relationship has not yet been finalized, and companies need to explore potential markets.
